Alton Adkins

Mr. Alton E. (Sarge) Adkins, age 84, of Rockmart, GA (the Yorkville community) passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 at his residence.

He was born on Treat Mountain in Polk County, GA on November 4, 1929 a son of the late Lonzo Adkins and Ester Finley Adkins. He had been a resident of the Yorkville community since his retirement from the U.S. Army in 1971. Mr. Adkins served his country in the United States Army for over twenty years achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in the armored tank division in Ft. Knox, KY and was stationed in Germany. He served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie L. (Becky) Lindsey Adkins; son, Eddie Adkins; brother, Euzeal Adkins; and sister, Shelby Forrister.

Survivors include his two children: Donald Adkins and his wife Robbie, Rockmart and Judith Todd and her husband Kasey, Rockmart; three grandchildren: Nicholas Todd, Philip Todd and Holly Todd; brother, A.D. Adkins, Kingston; and sister, Betty Lindsey, Rockmart.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Fennell officiating. Interment will follow in the Yorkville Memorial Cemetery with Brown-Wright Post #12 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites.

Pallbearers will include: A.D. Adkins, Kasey Todd, Nicholas Todd, Philip Todd, David Graham and Dennis Brown.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
