Alton Deems, Sr.

Mr. Alton Deems, Sr., age 85, of Taylorsville, GA, passed away Monday morning, December 2, 2024.

Mr. Deems was born in Taylorsville on March 13, 1939, a son of the late Willard Lee Deems and Annie Mae Cochran Deems. He had lived all his life in Taylorsville and was a line operator for General Motors. Mr. Deems loved the church and was a member of Euharlee Baptist Church in Aragon. He loved tinkering with old tractors and cars, farming, and watching NASCAR races.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Deems was preceded in death by a son, Shane Elrod, sisters, Jewell Pendergraff and Agnes Bowers, and brothers, Fain Deems, Coy Deems, Raven Deems, Raiford Deems, and Floyd Deems.

Mr. Deems is survived by his wife, Jo Anne Brown Deems, whom he married September 25, 1989; children, Pam (Robert) Brown, Al (Missy) Deems, Lee (Jennifer) Deems, and Justin (Leighann) Elrod; daughter-in-law, Casey Elrod; grandchildren, Shannon Brown Eubank, Victoria Brown Hazelwood, Laura Deems Jarrell, Hannah Mae Deems, Tyler Deems, Kelsea Elrod Culver, Peyton Elrod, Dayton Elrod, Dawson Elrod, and Lane Waddell; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Sara Moates, Joyce Bowman, and Onita Lindsey; brother, Mack (Janice) Deems. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Deems will be held on Thursday afternoon, December 5, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Euharlee Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Josh Johnson conducting graveside rites.

Mr. Deems’ family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour.

Pallbearers will include Dayton Elrod, Dawson Elrod, Tyler Deems, Kevin Deems, Mason Brown, Andy Deems, Tony Barnette, and Tyler Brown.
