Annie Ruth Ward

Mrs. Annie Ruth Ward, age 79, of Rockmart, GA passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016 at her residence following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Aragon, GA on August 14, 1936 a daughter of the late Solomon David Waldrop, Sr. and the late Rosa Mae Teems Waldrop. She worked at the Aragon Mill and the Goodyear Mill. Mrs. Ward also worked at Lockheed in Marietta where she helped build the C5A aircraft. During the 1970's she worked as an EMT for the Polk County Ambulance Service and also worked at the Pig Out Restaurant. In the 80's and 90's she managed North Main Video in Cedartown and prior to retirement she ran a ceramic shop in Rockmart.

Annie put everyone else's needs in front of hers. She was very active with the Relay For Life after her first round of cancer in 2000 and 2001 while it was in remission. During the holidays Annie and Ed enjoyed making candy and delivering to their doctors offices. Their specialty was learning how to make "Almond Joys". They enjoyed gardening, flea markets, bingo, spending time with family and of course spending time on facebook.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four sisters: Evelyn Gertrude Frazer Gilbert, Frances Jeanette Waldrop Cole, Patricia Ann Waldrop and Clara Jewell Waldrop Williams; and by three brothers: Solomon David Waldrop, Jr., Alfred Wallis Waldrop and George Dennis Waldrop.

Survivors include her loving husband James E. Ward, Sr. of Rockmart to whom she was married on October 16, 1955; son and daughter in law, James E. Ward, Jr. and Caroline Sarah Elizabeth Ward, Douglasville; grandchildren: James E. Ward, III, Kathlean Nicole Ward Forsyth and her husband James Matthew Forsyth; great grandchildren: Alexis Nicole and James Daniel Forsyth; and a number of nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Dyer and Rev. John Hooper officiating. A eulogy will be given by Daniel (Buck) Coalson. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will include: James E.(Jamie) Ward, III, James Matthew(Matt) Forsyth, Bobby Waldrop, Ron Campbell, Shawn Williams and Todd Edwards. Jerry Frazer will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour at 4:00 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
