Barbara Harris Gurley

Mrs. Barbara Harris Gurley, age 75, of 7 Walton Way, Rockmart passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009.


She was born in LaGrange, GA on December 23, 1933 a daughter of the late Thomas C. Harris and Eloise Davis Harris. Mrs. Gurley had been a resident of Rockmart since 1954. She was a member and elder of the Rockmart Presbyterian Church, a member of the choir and was involved with the children's music ministry. Mrs. Gurley was a former volunteer Pink Lady, an artist and loved to play bridge. She owned and operated Barbara's Kindergarten from 1958 to 1968. Mrs. Gurley was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Harrison Popham on October 13, 2009.


Survivors include her husband, Mr. Robert J. Gurley, Sr. of Rockmart to whom she was married on June 9, 1954; daughter, Mrs. Barbara Gay Gurley Popham and her husband Dr. Ray Popham, Sr., Cedartown; son, Mr. Robert J. Gurley, Jr. and wife Jovanna of Ringgold, GA; six grandchildren: Christi Popham Thomas and husband Zach, Chip Popham and wife Lindsey, John Popham, Sydney Gurley, Will Gurley and Greyson Gurley; four great grandchildren: Louci Thomas, Annabelle Thomas, Ellesie Thomas and Ella Popham; two sisters: Mrs. Joyce Harris Linch and husband Eddie, West Point, GA and Mrs. Ginger Harris Hall and husband Steve, Jacksonville, FL..


Funeral services will be held Tuesday October 27, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the Rockmart Presbyterian Church with Rev. Maryellen Hittle officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers will include: Chip Popham, Zach Thomas, John Popham, Will Gurley, Trippe Foster, Ned Linch, Wally Hanson and Eddie Hinton.


The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.


Floral gifts will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to the Rockmart Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimers Association.
