Bertie Fowler Barfield

Mrs. Bertie Fowler Barfield, local artist, age 85, of Aragon, GA passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

She was born in Tate, GA on March 12, 1932 a daughter of the late Burton B. Fowler and Mamie Disharoon Fowler. Mrs. Barfield had been a resident of Aragon since 1975 moving here from Marietta, GA. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rockmart and was a regular at the Bojangles in Rockmart most mornings. She was a local painter and artist who also enjoyed fishing.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Wilbur Barfield on October 25, 2006 to whom she was married for 55 years; and by a brother Howard Fowler and sister, Jewel Thomas.

Survivors include daughters: Becky Sailors (Tillman), Marietta; Peggy Moss (James), Dallas; sons: David Barfield (Tisse), Lawrenceville, Steven Barfield, Aragon and estranged son, Joseph Barfield (Jennifer), Tallapoosa; sisters: Marjorie Wigley, Edison, GA and Jolene Gravitt, Rockmart; sister in law, Ruth Fowler, Auburn, AL; 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the First Baptist Church of Rockmart with Rev. Jerry Adair officiating and a eulogy given by Mr. Dan Casey. Interment will follow in the Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Barfield will lie instate at the church Friday from 1:00 pm until the service hour.

Pallbearers will include: Jason Hitt, Travis Hitt ,Corey Wilson, Nathan Barfield, John Layfield, and Nathan Standridge. The Adult 4 Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
