Betty B. Mcmillian

Mrs. Betty G. McMillian, age 91 of Prior Station Road, Cedartown and formerly of Rockmart passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010 in a Rome Medical Center.

Born on February 11, 1919 in Paulding County, GA she was a daughter of the late Ollie Gurley, Sr. and Stella Brown Gurley. She was a 1937 graduate of Dallas High School and a former employee of the Goodyear Mill having worked there through the 1940?s. Mrs. McMillian loved raising her three children. She also enjoyed the time she spent outdoors in her garden and then cooking and canning the things she had grown. From 1988 until 1997 Mrs. McMillian spent a great deal of her time sitting with the elderly. During this period of time she was able to assist 18 families. Mrs. McMillian lived in Rockmart from 1952 until 2001 and then moved to Cedartown to live with her youngest son, Ernie.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. John H. McMillian on April 10, 1988; by two sisters: Thelma Camp and Jettie Deems and a brother, Ollie Gurley, Jr.


Mrs. McMillian is survived by her three children: Mr. Milan McMillian, Rockmart; Mrs. Marylon Bristow and husband Clay of Atlanta and Mr. Ernie McMillian, Cedartown; two grandchildren: Ms. Christa Joy McMillian and Mr. John Daniel McGinnis and wife Maria; one great grandson, Everett Daniel McGinnis; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with eulogies by Clay and Marylon Bristow and Minister Alvis Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens.


Pallbearers will include: Milan McMillian, Ernie McMillian, Clay Bristow, John McGinnis, Wendell Gurley, Doug Jensen, Donald Wood and Jonathan Stitt.


The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.


The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
