Betty Brock Cook

September 17, 1916 — January 22, 2010

Mrs. Betty Brock Cook, age 93, of 413 Smith Street, Rockmart passed away quietly in her sleep on Friday, January 22, 2010 in Rome, GA.

On Sunday, September 17, 1916, delivered by a local midwife, Corrie Elizabeth Brock was a surprise edition to the Brock household. She was born to a rotund, balding farmer named George Leon Brock who possessed the greatest sense of humor and Christian duty that any of us have ever known. Her mother was an aristocratic no-nonsense lady named Lessie Irene Moseley. They farmed continuously until her daddy?s death in 1949.

Betty married Frank Randall in 1937 and had two children, Frank Douglas in 1940 and Beth in 1949. Frank was a Master Carpenter whose untimely death in 1958 left his family devastated. Betty remarried Hoyt F. Cook in 1962 who passed away in 1988.

Betty continued to live in the Cook home, became one of the finest supporters of the Rockmart Presbyterian Church, a fact that no member of the congregation will deny. She was a loving mother, a devoted housewife, and one who kept The Faith.

She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Brannon of Columbia, S.C. and a son, Frank D. Randall, Rockmart; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rockmart Presbyterian Church with Rev. Maryellen Hittel officiating. Private family interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will include the following gentlemen: Brian Miles, Cheney Brannon, Brad Wheeler, Derrick Derringer, River Hart and Raymond Moody. An honorary escort will be comprised of Janet Moody, Lillian Lawrence and members of the Fifth Avenue staff family.

The family will receive friends in the narthex of the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts be made in Mrs. Cooks memory to the Rockmart Presbyterian Church.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
