Betty Jo Thornton

Mrs. Betty Jo Thornton, age 66, of Compton Circle, Rockmart, GA passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 in an Atlanta, GA Hospital following a four month illness.


She was born in Paulding County, GA on November 27, 1944 a daughter of the late Clyde Compton and Ruby Pinkard Compton. Mrs. Thornton had lived all of her life in Paulding County where she was a graduate of Paulding County High School. She was a member of the Crossroads Memorial Baptist Church and was a retired employee of the General Motors Corporation where she was employed for thirty eight years.


Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by four brothers: Oralee, Jimmy, Gerald and J.C. Compton.


Survivors include her husband, Mr. Hugh Thornton of Rockmart to whom she was married on May 18, 1963; one daughter, Mrs. Pam Henry and husband Kenny, Rockmart; one son, Mr. Shane Thornton and wife Jennifer, Dallas, GA; two sisters: Mrs. Lyndal Hayes, Rockmart and Mrs. Tiny Dodd, Aragon; four grandchildren: Addie, Shane, Jr., Emma and Allie Thornton.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the Crossroads Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Bennett, Rev. Andy Fennell and Rev. Jimmy Shoemaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Yorkville Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include: Joel Hanson, Ron Brown, Cody Brown, Branson Locklear, Jesse Davis and Ray Madden.


The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.


The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mrs. Betty Jo Thornton.
