Mrs. Betty Waters Sherman, age 70, of Taylorsville, GA passed away Friday, November 21, 2014 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Bartow County, GA on July 19, 1944 a daughter of Thad Waters and Pearl Hames Waters. Mrs. Sherman was a 1962 graduate of Rockmart High School and was a member of the Morning View Baptist Church. She had lived the greater part of her life in the Bartow and Polk county area. Mrs. Sherman had been employed as a secretary for the law office of William (Bill) Perry and later for the law office of Daniel B. Simon, III. She loved to read, work with her flowers and spend time with her animals.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Johnson and by three brothers: Herbie Waters, Carl Waters and Glen Waters.
Survivors include her husband, Donald (Donnie) Sherman, Sr., Taylorsville to whom she was married on December 29, 1976; son, Donald (Frankie) Sherman, Jr., Taylorsville; four sisters: Evelyn Wolfe, Rome, Doris Fuqua, Burnsville, NC, Mildred Robinson, Rockmart and Patti Thomas, Rockmart; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Morning View Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Hulsey officiating. Interment will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers and include: Mike Waters, Donald Fuqua, Keith Wolfe, Randy Robinson, Eddie Waters and Joel Waters.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts be made to SPCA, 1175 Highway 23 NW # 109 Suwanee, GA 30024 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 in memory of Mrs. Sherman.
The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mrs. Betty Waters Sherman.
