Mr. Billy Steve Abernathy, age 71, of Aragon, GA, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021.

Billy was born on August 4, 1950 in Aragon, GA, to his late parents: Joe and Antemarh Abernathy. Mr. Abernathy was a Rockmart High School graduate and lived all his life in Aragon. He drove race cars from 1971 until 1985 and then opened and operated Billy Abernathy’s Body Shop and Towing Service from 1985 to 2016. He enjoyed towing cars and trucks. He was a specialized wreck master. Billy was a member of the Davitte Lodge #513 F&AM where he was a past Master and a 25 year member and was awarded Mason of the year in 2000. He was also a member of the Slate City Shrine. Billy was a member and faithful deacon of Flint Hill Baptist Church. Billy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend to many who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-laws: Ricky Cole and Kenneth Edwards and sister-in-law, Tracy Cole.

Mr. Abernathy is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Diane Abernathy of Aragon, GA, daughters: Cindy Burnes and her husband, Harvey of Aragon, GA, Stephine Robinson and her husband, Kevin of Aragon, GA, grandchildren: Amber Baker and Hunter Forsyth, great granddaughter, Gracie Whitman, brother, Larry Abernathy of Aragon, GA, sisters: Zula Mae Julian of Mabelton, GA, and Virginia Breavers of Mabelton, GA, brothers and sisters in law: Linda Edwards and family, Teri Cole and family, Dale and Phil Fisher and family, Debbie and Mike Bruce and family, Mark and Michelle Cole and family, Bobbie Vellia and family, Hank and Lori Cole and family, and Scott Cole and family, numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services for Mr. Billy Abernathy will be held on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at 2:00 PM from Flint Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Johnson and a eulogy given by Mr. Steve Dutton. Mr. Abernathy will lie in state at the church on Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 1:00 PM until the service begins at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites given.

Serving as pallbearers will be the following gentlemen: James Davenport, Jackie Payne, Todd Edwards, Mark Cole, Jacob Watson and Eric Brumbelow.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, September 4, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and at other hours may be contacted at the residence.
