Billy Zeke Simmons

Mr. Billy Zeke Simmons, age 80, of 51 Ridgewood Drive, Rockmart went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 2, 2009.

He was born on May 12, 1929 a son of W.H. Simmons and Permilla Betsy Reese Simmons. Mr. Simmons had lived in Rockmart the greater part of his life, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Euharlee Baptist Church. He retired from the Marquette Cement Manufacturing Plant following 25 years of employment. Following his retirement from Marquette Mr. Simmons was a self employed mechanic. He was preceded in death by his parents, by a son, Mike Simmons, a sister, Daisy Cagle, and by brothers: O.C., Virgil and Floyd Simmons.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Evelyn Simmons of Rockmart to whom he was married on September 6, 1980; three daughters: Mrs. Connie Gilbert and husband Jim, Mrs. Cheryl McDowell and husband Randy, Mrs. Cindy White and husband Sammy all of Rome; son, Mr. Steve Woods and wife Connie of Rockmart; two brothers: Mr. Norman:Chick? Simmons, Rome and Mr. Lester ?Pete? Simmons, Rockmart; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Euharlee Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Sisson and Rev. Steven Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will include: Coleman White, Sammy White, Randy McDowell, Steve Woods, Jim Gilbert and Bobby Chandler.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
