Mrs. Carolyn Gail Hicks, age 67, of Berryhill Road Rome, GA passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 in a Rome Medical Center following an extended illness.
She was born in Glenn Allen, AL on June 10, 1943 a daughter of Mildred H. Grissom. Mrs. Hicks had lived all of her life in Floyd County, GA where she was a member of the Oak Hill Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Shorter College and was a Registered Nurse. Mrs. Hicks was a member of the Georgia Association of Occupational Health Nurses. During her nursing career she served as the mill nurse for West Point Pepperell followed by a 13 year career with Floyd Medical Center. She had also owned and operated the Alto Trailer Park for 15 years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred G.Cargle on November 18, 2003.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Earl Hicks, Sr. of Rome to whom she was married on April 20, 1985; sons: Cecil Wayne Royer, Jr., Acworth and Bryan Keith Royer, Rome; daughters: Teresa Schaap, Rome, Paula Ann Preston, Centre, AL, Jennifer J. Johnson, Rome and Betty J. Harrell, Cedartown; step son, Ray Earl Hicks, Jr., TN; step father: Reno Cargle, Rome; sister, Sherry Jo Vaughn, Centre, AL; brothers: Kenneth E. Grissom, Cedar Bluff, AL and Timothy H. Cargle, Rome; seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.
Memorial services will be held Thursday evening, March 17, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Oak Hill Church of Christ with ministers Joey Haynes ,Bill Brinkley and Alvis Miller officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 17, 2011 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Oak Hill Church of Christ, 1500 Martha Berry Blvd., Rome.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be given to any of the following: American Cancer Society, Arthritis Foundation or Alzheimer?s Association.
The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
