Mrs. Charmon Lucille Phillips, age 89, of Rome, GA passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in a Rome nursing center following several months of declining health.
She was born in Spring Garden, AL on August 24, 1926, a daughter of the late P. Emory McCollum and Nobia Potts McCollum. Mrs. Phillips had lived in Cedar Bluff, AL before moving to Rome where she had made her home for many years. She was a member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, a graduate of the Carol Lynn Business School and had worked for the Rome City School System and retired from Floyd Medical Center where she worked in medical records. Mrs. Phillips enjoyed sports, especially watching the Atlanta Braves, Hawks and Falcons.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers: Harvey, Tommy, Norman, Bill and Glenn McCollum.
Survivors include her five daughters: Janice Phillips Johnson, Gulf Breeze, FL, Merriam Phillips Sharpe, Rome, Debbie Phillips Fox, Rome, Terri Phillips Astin, Kingston and Barbara Phillips Moody, Rome; two sisters: Jean Johnson and Sue Shores both of Rome; two brothers: David McCollum, Cedar Bluff, AL and Jack McCollum, Yorba Linda, CA; ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the South Chapel of Henderson and Sons Funeral Home, Rome with Minister Joey Haynes officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will include: Steve Johnson, Lynn Fox, Tripp Astin, David Moody, Michael Sharpe and Ryan Fox.
The family will receive friends at Henderson and Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening.
Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home in cooperation with Henderson and Sons South Chapel, 3002 Maple Road, Rome is in charge of arrangements.
