Mrs. Clara Hightower, age 92, of Aragon, GA passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 following several years of declining health.
She was born in Blairsville, GA on February 9, 1921 a daughter of the late Joseph Lorenza Brown and Ida Elizabeth Logan Brown. Mrs. Hightower had lived the greater part of her life in Polk County where she was a member of the Bellview Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 321, the Rebecah Lodge # 28 having served as Noble Grand in 1988-1989 and received the Declaration of Shivery.
Mrs. Hightower was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Lee Hightower on October 21, 1980; by a daughter, Jody Hightower, a great grandson, Nick Hughes; by five sisters: Ora Turner, Ada Martin, Avie Cook, Mary Lou Owens and Fannie Duvall ;by two brothers: Oscar Brown and John Brown and a son in law, Henry Hughes.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Hughes, Aragon; three grandchildren: Denice Waters of Hiram, Mark Hughes of Rockmart and Greg Hughes of Dallas; four great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; sister, Hazel Austin, Rockmart and brother, Seaborn Brown, Rockmart.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Bellview Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Davis and Rev. Owen (Bud) Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Carol Robinson officiating.
Active pallbearers will include: Jeff Carter, Edwin Owens, Leon Cook, Perry Cook, Irwin Austin, Steve Turner, Greg Stoncypher and Matthew Waters. Honorary pallbearers will include: Robert Broom, Charles Dansby, Nathaniel Carter, Wayne Purser, Mike Carter, Charles Rayburn ,Doug Owens and David Howard.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
