Cornelia Bennett Jackson

Cornelia Bennett Jackson, retired teacher, loving mother, and lifelong resident of Rockmart, GA passed away peacefully in her home on May 6, 2021.

She was born in Petersburg, Virginia on November 27, 1949 to Talbott and Mary Ann Jackson Bennett. She was a graduate of Rockmart High School, Mercer University, and the University of West Georgia. She taught at Rockmart High School until she retired in 2004. In her time there, she was the advisor for the yearbook staff and loved watching her students create something they could be proud of for years to come. She was a member of Rockmart First United Methodist Church and spent years coordinating curriculums for Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the slaw team and chopped cabbage alongside her friends for many barbeques. After retirement, she continued to care for her community by volunteering at the Helping Hands Food Pantry in Rockmart.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jerry Jackson, and daughter, Elizabeth Bowen Jackson. She is survived by her two daughters Patricia J. Anderson and Juliet J. Brown (Jonathan David Brown) and her beloved grandchildren, Bowen and Lucas Anderson and Joanna Brown. She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Bennett Jacobs and Evelyn Bennett Ickes, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors at the Rockmart First United Methodist Church on Monday, May 10 between 1:00-2:00, with a memorial service in the Sanctuary at 2:30. A private interment service will be held in the Bennett Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends make donations to the Helping Hands Food Pantry.
