Donald "Grandaddy" Gamel

Mr. Donald ?Grandaddy? Gamel age 74, of Rockmart, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012 at his residence.

He was born in Paulding County, GA on April 7, 1937 son of the late Raymond Gamel and Louise Elsberry Gamel. Mr. Gamel had lived the greater part of his life in Polk County where he was a 1956 graduate of Rockmart High School. He retired as a foreman in substation construction with the Georgia Power Company following thirty four years of service. Mr. Gamel was of the Baptist faith and he loved to hunt and fish.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Shirley Bentley Gamel of Rockmart to whom he was married on April 9, 1957; daughter, Patricia Mosso, Rockmart; son, Garlin Gamel and his wife Pam, Rockmart; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Tucker and Rev. Ed Fennell officiating. Tommy Floyd will deliver a eulogy. Interment will follow in the Yorkville Baptist Church Memorial Garden.

Pallbearers will include: D.J. Gamel, Jason Stroup, Roddy Austin, Tommy Floyd, Kenneth Hicks, Tommy Garner, Jeff Dunn and Ben Winkelman. Sonny Roberson will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
