Donnie Swift

June 19, 1951 — March 8, 2013

Rev. Donnie Swift, age 61, of Rockmart, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013 at a Rome medical center.

He was born in Polk County, GA on June 19, 1951 a son of Heslip Lee Swift and Mildred Robinson Swift. Donnie had lived all of his life in the Rockmart area and was a member and Deacon of Van Wert Baptist Church. He was a longtime employee of Austin Motor Service working as a mechanic and had also worked for Mechanical Euipment Company.

He was preceded in death by his father, Heslip Lee Swift, by two brothers: Tommy Swift and Edward Swift and by a grandson, Thomas Ray Swift.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Swift to whom he was married on February 5, 1972; six children: Kim Thaxton, Steven Swift, Lisa Haney, Scotty Swift, Michael Swift and Amanda Farmer; Mother, Mildred Swift,; four sisters: Glenda Guice, Sadie Locklear, Carolyn Johnson and Charlotte Austin; thirteen grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Dunn, Rev. Jimmy Shoemaker and Rev. Danny English officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Michael Head officiating.

Pallbearers will include: Timmy Johnson, Doug Swift, Allen Dunn, Nathan Williams, Heath Dunn and Jeff Dunn. Honorary pallbearers will include: Britt Earwood, Robert Cummings, Greg Bollen and Chris Posey.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for the funeral of Rev. Donnie Swift.
