Mr. Doyce Edward Pilgrim, age 78, of 456 South Marble St. Rockmart passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009 in a Rome Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born in Floyd County on August 17, 1930 a son of the late Thomas Pilgrim and Martha Hopkins Pilgrim. Mr. Pilgrim moved to Polk County in the early 1990?s from Decatur. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Pilgrim was a former employee of the Bartow County Road Department and was a member of the Oak Ridge Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two daughters: Sharon Holbrook in 2004 and Barbara Mosley in 2006.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Ola Pilgrim to who he was married on October 8, 1954, a daughter Donna Pilgrim of Rockmart, two sons: Floyd Edward Pilgrim and Jimmy Lee Pilgrim both of Rockmart, one special granddaughter, Christy who was raised as a daughter, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one brother Dewey Pilgrim.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 31, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Robinson and Rev. Charles Sutton officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Deems officiating. Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion will be in charge of Military Graveside Rites.
Pallbearers will include: David Wilson, Michael Mosley, Steven Mosley, Brian Pilgrim, Terry Williams and Anthony Williams.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mr. Doyce Edward Pilgrim.
