Dr. Ralph D. King, age 82, of Rockmart, GA passed away suddenly Monday, November 10, 2014 at his residence.
A native of Paulding County he was born on March 10, 1932 a son of Hancel Clifton King and Maggie Rae Moon King. Dr. King was a lifelong resident of the Paulding-Polk county area. He graduated from Dallas High School in 1952 and served his country from 1952 to1954 in the United States Army achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. He received his BS Degree in Agriculture followed by his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree in 1961 from the University of Georgia. Dr. King's veterinary practice spanned a period of forty years in our community.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rockmart where he had served in many capacities including Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Trustee. He was a very active member of the Gideons International, a member and past President of the Rockmart Kiwanis Club, former President of the Chamber of Commerce, former Chairman of the Rockmart-Aragon Hospital Authority, a charter member of the Joint Economic Development Commission of Polk County and a member of the Polk County Cattleman's Association. Dr. King had also served as President of the North American Veterinary Conference and was the recipient of the Georgia Cattleman's Veterinarian of the year Award.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Clifton Douglas King.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Gober King of Rockmart to whom he was married on May 6, 1953; son, Dr. Glenn R. King, Marietta; daughter, Janet King Rucker and husband Russell, Rockmart; grandson, Colin Rucker, Rockmart; sister, Doris Wright and husband J.W., Rockmart; aunt, Rosie Faye Moon and uncle, Horace Moon and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Rockmart with Dr. Greg Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Dr. King will lie instate at the church on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.
Active pallbearers will include: Keith Wright, Renae Wright, Darrell Wright, Chandler Julian, Greg Gober, Dr. Kelly Gober, Kevin Gober and Dr. Travis Wright. Honorary pallbearers will include members of Gideon International, Department 3 & 4 Men's Sunday School Class and the Rockmart Kiwanis Club.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
The family will be accepting flowers but those desiring may make memorial gifts to Gideons International, P.O. Box 732 Cedartown, GA 30125 or to the Building Fund of the First Baptist Church of Rockmart, P.O. Box 388 Rockmart, GA 30153.
