Earnest Derrell "Ernie" Swords

Earnest Derrell "Ernie" Swords, age 63, of Talking Rock, GA, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, in Jasper, GA. He was born on June 22, 1960, in Blakely, GA, a son of the late William Darrell Swords and JoAnn Cherry Swords.

Ernie was a man of many passions and interests. He cherished trains and found joy in everything related to them. His love for all holidays was evident, but Easter Egg Hunting held a special place in his heart. Ernie had an undeniable love for dancing and could light up any room with his smooth moves. The soothing embrace of the water brought him immense peace and tranquility. Above all, Ernie adored children and found great happiness in their presence.

Ernie will be deeply missed by his surviving family members including his sisters, Susan (Derek) Hill, Vicki Brumfield, Carol Fisher; as well as his brothers, Johnny (Lisa) Swords, James Swords, Patrick (Sandy) Swords. Their bond was unbreakable and filled with countless cherished memories.

In addition to his immediate family, Ernie leaves behind several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who were blessed to have shared a part of their lives with him. His love and guidance will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

Funeral services to honor Ernie's beautiful life will be held in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 12:00 noon with Rev. David Warriner officiating.  Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens. 

Ernie's family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon. 

Pallbearers will include James Swords, Patrick Swords, Anthony Roberson, Corey Swords, Jayden Hill and Brody Skeens.

Ernie's departure has left us heartbroken but also grateful for the time we had with him. He taught us to find joy in the simplest of things and to live life with pure love in our hearts. Ernie's kind and gentle soul will forever be remembered and cherished.
