Mrs. Emma Corrine Tate Goss Spinks, age 90, of Rockmart, GA passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020.
She was born in Bartow County, GA on September 21, 1929, a daughter of the late Coleman Bryant Tate and the late Grace Madden Tate. Emma moved to Rockmart as a young girl. She grew up working hard with her parents on their farm. Emma was always a very good student in school, (as her friends would attest). One day shortly after graduation in 1948, while working in the garden with her Daddy, the president of the Rockmart Bank came to offer her a job. She worked there for many years and became a vital part of the community. She married Howell Goss in 1955 and they had three precious children, Cindy, Ron and Ginger. Howell passed away in 1962 and Emma persevered as a single mother with three small children. In 1964 she married Clifford Spinks and went on to have two more daughters Jenny and Marie. The family grew and established themselves as owners of Spinks Nursery and Landscaping. The couple helped to make Rockmart beautiful for over 30 years. Clifford could not have made their business so successful without the strength of his wife Emma. Her passions did not end with flowers. Emma also graced the community with her amazing servant heart. She spent most of her time on the road going from houses, hospitals, and nursing homes. She was a Hospice volunteer for 27 years. She would spend hours giving respite to family members whose loved one was receiving hospice care. She donated gallons of blood and later platelets to the Red Cross and always encouraged others to donate as well. She was an Avid member at Piedmont Avenue Baptist Church where she was Sunday School Secretary, and member of the choir along with various other roles. She so enjoyed her time in the Golden Age at First Baptist. She also loved to spend time at her local senior center, visiting with her friends where she was affectionately called the “Bingo Queen” and delivering meals to the homebound (which also included her famous banana bread!) She instilled this gift for creating and giving in her children and grandchildren. Her legacy is seen in the giving and compassionate hearts of the social workers, teacher, and nurse. This family has been shaped by her passionate love for her Savior, Jesus Christ who she gave all glory and honor for all she accomplished. It would take too long to tell all that He did in and through her life. He was ever so faithful to her until he called her home to his arms.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her former husbands: Howell E. Goss and Clifford Spinks; and a sister, Marie Tate.
Survivors include children: Cindy Ivy, Rockmart, Ron Goss, Atlanta, Ginger Parker and her husband Mike, Rockmart, Jenny Williams and her husband Stephen, Rockmart, and Marie Winkler and her husband Josef, Hapeville; eight grandchildren: J.R., Travis, Hannah, Sarah, Cody, Cati, Charity and Maximilian; four great-grandchildren; sister, Diane Worthington and her husband, Norman, Kingston; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive
.
