Frances Valnere Crawford

Mrs. Frances Valnere Crawford, age 99, of Rockmart, GA passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at her residence following a brief illness.

A native of Thomasville ,GA, she was born on December 23, 1914, a daughter of James Valnere Hawthorn and Laura Katherine Sturdivant Hawthorn. Mrs. Crawford graduated from Thomasville High School and was a 1937 graduate of the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She was an elementary school teacher from 1937 to 1941 in Ella, GA and Blue Ridge, GA before moving to Rockmart in 1945. Mrs. Crawford was a member of the Rockmart Presbyterian Church and was a former Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of the Rockmart Woman's Club having served as President on two occasions.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank O. Crawford on September 25, 2003 to whom she was married on November 23, 1941 and by a sister, Martha Hawthorn Tuck in 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Evans and her husband, Jim and a son, William Edward (Eddie) Crawford and his wife Sharon all of Rockmart; three grandchildren: Maria Norris, Lynn Meredith Dill and Major Wes Evans; six great grandchildren: Jake Norris, Jackson Norris, Hayden Dill, Maggie Dill, Zane Evans and Van Evans; much loved caregiver, Joyce Hill, Aragon and a number of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rockmart Presbyterian Church with Rev. Maryellen Hittel officiating. Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday in the Fellowship area of the Rockmart Presbyterian Church following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts be made in Mrs. Crawford's memory to the Back Pack Ministry, Rockmart Presbyterian Church P.O. Box 226 Rockmart, GA 30153.
