Fred R. Mcdowell

Mr. Fred McDowell, age 75, of 543 Knight Road Rockmart passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at his residence following several months of illness.

He was born in Polk County on June 5, 1934 a son of the late L. B. McDowell and Cora Myrtle Atkins McDowell. Mr. McDowell had lived all of his life in Polk County and was a member of the Wimberly Hill Baptist Church. He was a retired industrial electrician having been employed at Aragon and Goodyear Mills. Mr. McDowell was preceded in death by a brother, G.P. McDowell and four sisters: Geneva Atkins, Catherine Jackson, Aileen Brewer and Annette Glenn.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Christine Pinion McDowell of Rockmart to whom he was married on November 5, 1960; three children: Mrs. Freda Gipson and her husband Jim of Rome, Mrs. Deena Horsley and her husband Bernie of Rockmart and Mr. Christopher McDowell and his wife Donna of Cartersville; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, sister in law, Geneva Alexander, Rockmart and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Rayford Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will include: Steve Johnson, Kevin Swafford, Doug Davis, David Bush, Shane Garrison and Bud Davis.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
