Gene Austin

Mr. Gene Austin, age 72, of Peachtree Road Rockmart, GA passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at his residence following a lengthy illness.


Gene was born in Rockmart, GA on July 26, 1938 a son of the late Jack Austin and Eula Tumlin Austin. He had lived all of his life in Rockmart where he was a 1958 graduate of Rockmart High School. Mr. Austin was a retired employee of Lockheed-Martin Aircraft Corporation in Marietta with 37 years of service. He enjoyed spending time at the local car cruises where he drove his classic 1964 Chevrolet Impala. He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1961 to 1963. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Noland and by three brothers: Stanley, Kenneth and Dene Austin.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elaine Coats Austin of Rockmart to whom he was married on June 19, 1960; daughter, Trina Millican and husband Danny, Rockmart; son, Greg Austin and wife Connie, Rockmart; two sisters: Paddy Phillips, Rockmart and Barbara Gore, Rockmart; five granddaughters: Gina Graham, Paige Millican, Ashley Tinney, Brittney Hindmon and Tiffany Austin; two great grandchildren: Makayla Tinney and Briar Graham ; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fairview Baptist Church with Dr. Tony Weaver and Rev. James Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the County Line Baptist Church Cemetery.


Pallbearers will include the following nephews: Barry Gore, Randy Gore, Jeffrey Austin, David Underhill, Kerry Coats and Jack Noland.


The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
