Geneva M. Atkins

Mrs. Geneva M. Atkins, age 84,of 614 Valley Drive, Dalton and formerly of Rockmart passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009 in Dalton.


She was born on July 26, 1924 in Polk County, GA a daughter of the late L.B. McDowell and Cora Myrtle McDowell. Mrs. Atkins had been a resident of Dalton for the past six years moving from Rockmart where she had made her home the greater part of her life. She was formerly employed by Goodyear and E-Z Mills but spent most of her life working as a homemaker. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. David Atkins on September 26, 2002, by a brother, Mr. G.P. McDowell, and three sisters: Mrs. Annette Glenn, Mrs. Catherine Jackson and Mrs. Aileen Brewer.


Survivors include her son Mr. Thurmon Atkins and his wife Diane of Dalton; one brother, Mr. Fred McDowell and his wife Christine of Rockmart and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.


Funeral services will be held Monday, March 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin Brown and Dr. Larry Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.


Pallbearers will include: Chris, Greg and Randy McDowell, Matt Brewer, Bernie Horsley and James Hembree.


The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
