Mr. George H. Danforth, age 95, of Taylorsville, GA passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
Dad was born in Atlanta, GA, on September 12, 1927, a son of the late James Hampton Danforth and Leota McLarty Danforth. He was always a patriot, even in high school he led his ROTC unit with pride. After graduation, Dad joined the United States Navy and served during World War 2. Returning home from the war, he went to work or Southern Bell as a lineman. He met my mom, Lola, through his cousin, they were married on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1948, and spent 69 years together.
Dad spent more than 35 years at Southern Bell which ultimately became ATT. He and his crew were instrumental in setting up phone communications at the Atlanta Airport. He loved to tell the story of him being pulled aside by Presidential security to connect phone lines to President John F. Kennedy’s Airforce One. Dad was a highly respected manger with ATT. He was fortunate to retire at age 55 and from there he and mom set out to travel the US in their motor home. Dad loved meeting people and exploring new places, always looking for a place to fish, play golf or just talk to people.
Dad love teaching his grandkids how to fish and hunt and just have fun. He loved to tell stories to all the children, and they would be spellbound wanting to hear more.
Dad was a godly man with a booming base voice. He loved music and singing. He sang in a gospel group with his cousin and sister at his church New Hope Baptist in SW Atlanta. After moving to Taylorsville, he and mom joined Taylorsville Baptist Church. He cherished his new friends and his love for God. He always had a kind word and sweet smile for everyone.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Danforth was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lola Danforth, and his siblings, Felton, Rowena, John, Vena, Eunice, and Emmett.
