Geraldine Alice Chambers Dodgen

December 12, 1930 — December 16, 2021

Mrs. Geraldine Alice Chambers Dodgen, affectionately known as “Jerrie”, age 91, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 5:45 in the morning.

She was born in Pontiac, Michigan on December 12, 1930, daughter to the late Lowell Benton Chambers and Zora Mae Bowman Chambers.

Mrs. Dodgen was a talented, imaginative, and artistic woman. Self-taught, she played the guitar, piano, and organ as if it was second nature. She was a great seamstress and loved to make clothing for her children when they were young. She was an awesome cook and taught her daughters and sons how to make many wonderful dishes. Many of Jerries’ talents included the ability to create beautiful paintings on any type of media from macro to large murals. She won ribbons at the county fair for her oil paintings and was featured in the local paper. Mrs. Dodgen and her late son Dennis made woodworking a team effort. Jerrie artfully painted the wood and Dennis shaped the wood into imaginative figures. Mrs. Dodgen taught students how to paint, macramé, and paint ceramic pottery. Jerrie loved photography and it was rare to see her without easy access to a camera. She had a passion for animals and her koi fish gave her much happiness. Mrs. Dodgen had great pride in her children and readily shared her talents with others. She was an amazing woman, whose memory will be cherished.

She was preceded in death by her parents and loving son Dennis Charles Guittar.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. James Alfred Dodgen of Rockmart, GA; sons Cary Guittar of Cedartown, GA, Steven Guittar of New Albany, IN, and Eldon Guittar of New Albany, IN; daughters Joy Dodgen Burgamy of Knoxville, TN, April Dodgen Stephenson of Bedford, VA, and Paula Dodgen Culver of Broken Arrow, OK; 19 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Dabbs officiating. Interment will follow in Northview Cemetery.
