Mrs. Hazel Sarah Brown Austin, age 95, of Rockmart, GA passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at her residence.
She was born in Blairsville, GA on December 13, 1918 a daughter of the late Joseph Lorenza Brown and Ida Elizabeth Logan Brown. Mrs. Austin had lived the greater part of her life in Polk County. She was a member of the Bellview Baptist Church for over 60 years and a member of the Helping Hands Sunday School Class. Mrs. Austin was a former employee of the United Merchants Mill of Aragon and Philadelphia Carpet Mill of Cartersville.
Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Venson Austin; by a daughter, Jeanette Earwood and her husband Ray; by sisters: Ora Turner, Ada Martin, Avie Cook, Mary Lou Owens, Fannie Duvall and Clara Bell Hightower; brothers: Oscar Brown, John Brown and Seaborn Brown and an infant brother and infant sister.
Survivors include a daughter, Glenda A. Brown Harper, Rockmart; son, Irvin Austin, Aragon; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Bellview Baptist Church with Rev. Owen “Bud” Davis and the Rev. Dr. Larry Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will include: Edwin Owens, Monty Owens, Leon Cook, Perry Cook, James Turner and Steve Turner. Members of the Helping Hands Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
