Henry W. (Bill) White

November 11, 1918 — December 17, 2008

Mr. Henry W. (Bill) White, age 90, of 428 Clearwater Street Rockmart passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008 in a Rome Medical Center.


He was born in Pine Log, GA on November 11, 1918 a son of the late Carl Olin White and Estelle Ida Hitt White. Mr. White had lived most of his life in Rockmart where he was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church. He farmed for many years and later worked for the Rockmart Housing Authority in the maintenance department retiring in 1967. Mr. White was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby E. White of Rockmart to whom he was married on March 18, 1944; two daughters: Mrs. Judy Hughes and Mrs. Kathy Bowman both of Rockmart; three sisters: Mrs. Joyce Martin, Mrs. Louise Robinson and Mrs. Shirley Jackson all of Rockmart; 9 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren also survive.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Owen Davis, Jr. and Minister Alvis Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens with Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites.


Pallbearers will include: Adam Brinkley, Daulton Swindall, Hank Coleman, Bill Coleman, Jimmy Blair and Jamie Shoemaker. Paul Rakestraw ,Josh Edwards and Michael Allen will serve as honorary pallbearers.


The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
