Mr. Herbert Franklin Hulsey, age 76, of Fairview Road, Rockmart passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011 at his residence following a six months illness.
He was born in Braswell, GA on August 29, 1934 a son of the late C.C. Hulsey and Lillie Mae Brown Hulsey. Mr. Hulsey grew up in the Rockmart area before entering the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy he served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War as a machinist mate. He served as Port Engineer while in St. Croix, Virgin Islands and had been employed by Hess Oil Company working out of the Gulf of Mexico near New Orleans, LA. Mr. Hulsey was an avid sailor who had designed and built a 44 foot sail boat which he sailed from Holland to St. Croix, Virgin Islands. He also was a very talented musician who loved to play his guitar and sing.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Hulsey Hardman and two brothers in law: Dee Hardman and Jim Barker.
Survivors include his loving companion of 24 years, Judy Shanks, Rockmart; two brothers: H.K. Hulsey and C.C. Hulsey and wife Patty of Rockmart; three sisters: Lou Hulsey Barker, Gainesville, Ann Hulsey Jones and husband J.B., Rockmart and Jan Hulsey, Rockmart; four step children: Christopher Shanks, Armuchee, Travis Shanks, Cedartown, Jamie Blair, Cartersville and Stephanie Jarrell, Rockmart.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Hoyt Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include: Thomas Hulsey, Manuel Hardman, Bobby Renshaw, Joe Harrell, Wayne Jarrell, Kyle Shanks, Randy Shanks and Rance Harrell.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mr. Herbert Franklin Hulsey.
