Mr. Howard B. Lumpkin, age 90, of Kingston, GA and formerly of Rockmart, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 at his residence following several months of declining health.
He was born in Rockmart, GA on September 2, 1925, a son of the late Frank M. Lumpkin and Gladys Parham Lumpkin. He had been a resident of Bartow County for the past ten years but had lived the greater part of his life in Rockmart. Mr. Lumpkin was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Rockmart. He retired from the Ford Motor Company, Hapeville Assembly Plant following thirty two years of service. Mr. Lumpkin was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II. He enjoyed working outside in his yard for many years until his health failed in recent months. Mr. Lumpkin also assisted his wife with her day care center for thirty years.
In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by his step mother, Edna Lumpkin, a son, Phil Lumpkin in 1964, a daughter, Melba Lorraine (Lori) Dunn in 2003, and by a brother, William Lumpkin.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Betty Lumpkin, Kingston, to whom he was married on September 12, 1947; daughter, Cindy Samples, Rockmart; three grandchildren: Wesley Howard Samples, Atlanta; Crystal Shay Spexarth, Rome; and Jessica Dunn, Rome; one great granddaughter, Sydney Lorin Spexarth, Rome; brother, Donald Lumpkin, Johns Creek; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral and interment services will be held Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Calvin Brown officiating and military honors delivered by the Honor Guard of Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion.
The Honor Guard of Brown-Wright Post will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
