J. B. Holland

Mr. J. B. Holland, age 81, of Cedartown Highway Rockmart, GA passed away Saturday, March 26, 2011 at his residence following a six month illness.


He was born in Aragon, GA on March 5, 1930 a son of the late James Starling Holland and Clifford Lewis Holland. Mr. Holland had lived the greater part of his life in Polk County and was of the Baptist faith. He had been employed by Goodyear Mill, Rome Plow Company, Thrall Carr and Tip Top Poultry. Mr. Holland was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp having served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bessie Holland Brown.


Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Hawkins Holland of Rockmart to whom he was married on February 15, 1963; three children: James Norris and wife Faye of Lithia Springs, Lori Depew and husband Scott, Rockmart and James Larry Holland and wife Mandy, Cedartown; sister, Emily Jenkins, Cartersville; five grandchildren: Joshua Dunn, Tabitha Dunn, Josie Depew, Samuel Depew and Nolan Holland; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. James Coffman and Rev. Calvin Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery with Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites.


Pallbearers will include: Frank Depew, Danny Ashley, Joshua Dunn, Chris Robinson, Billy Cornwell and Jeff Ruff. Honorary pallbearers will include: Bobby Broswell, Wayne Purser, David Howard, James Hovers ,Jeremy King and Bud East.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
