Mr. James Edward Waites, age 81, of Aragon, GA passed away Friday, September 23. 2016 in a Rome medical center following several months of illness.
He was born in Bartow County, GA on June 25, 1935 a son of the late Jack and Gladys Waites. He had been a resident of Polk County since 1957 and was a member and Chairman of the Deacon Board of the Lake View Baptist Church where he also served as church treasurer. He retired from Bekaert Steel in Rome and was a well known farmer.
Mr. Waites was an avid sports fan who loved the Georgia Bulldogs and the New York Yankees. He was famous for his sausage and pigs.
James loved the Lord, which was the most important part of his life.
He was preceded in death by two daughters: Connie Waites and Tracey Massey; a granddaughter, Heather Waites and two brothers: Bobby Ingram and Ricky Ingram.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Shirley Ann Waites to whom he was married on September 14, 1957; four daughters: Denise Davidson (Jimmy), Rockmart, Robbie Hill (Clyde), Aragon, Mickie Dearborn (Josh), Madison, MS and Karla Waites, Aragon; one son, John Massey (Virginia), Aragon; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four sisters: Charlotte Ingram, Linda Wiggington, Joyce Mulkey and Myrtle Ruth Ingle all of Cartersville; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Eddy Hughes and Rev. Brian Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include: John Massey, Scott Lewis, Tyler Floyd, Dylan Payne, Kevin Carter, Chuck Leathers , Seth Benefield and Max Chambers. Honorary pallbearers will include: Johnny Moates, Caleb Bowman, Chaz Leathers, Colton Leathers, Parker Thomas, Logan Lewis and Avery Lewis.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 pm until the funeral hour at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
