Mr. James Edward Ward, Sr. also known as“Big Ed”, age 89, of Rockmart, GA passed away Friday, January 8, 2021.
He was born in Cedartown, GA on November 8, 1931, a son of the late Ernest “Ebb” Ward and the late Lois Alexander Ward. Ed was a lifelong resident of Polk County. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army National Guard and a member of Brown-Wright Post #12 American Legion Honor Guard. Ed enjoyed fishing and making his daily calls to the trading post. He had a great love for his family and also loved his dogs. He was a member of Springdale Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Ruth Ward; three brothers: Fred, Emmit, and Howard Ward; and sister, Betty Carnes.
Survivors include his son, James Edward Ward, Jr. and his wife, Caroline, Rockmart; four grandchildren: James Edward (Jamie) Ward III, Kathlean Forsyth and her husband James Matthew, Victoria Carroll, and Emily Carroll; three great-grandchildren: Alexis Forsyth, James Daniel Forsyth, and Bristol Peyton Forsyth; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside funeral and interment services will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 4:00 pm in Polk Memory Gardens with Rev. Steve Arrington officiating. Brown-Wright Post #12 American Legion Honor Guard will provide military graveside rites.
Pallbearers will include: James Matthew (Matt) Forsyth, James Edward (Jamie) Ward, III, Kathlean Forsyth, Luke Ingle, Bobby Waldrop, Kelvin Ingle, and Todd Edwards.
The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 pm until 3:30 pm at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
