Jerry Thomas Prater

Mr. Jerry Thomas Prater, age 65,of Cedartown, GA passed away Monday, August 20, 2012 in a Rome nursing center following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Floyd County, GA on September 26, 1946 a son of James Albert Prater and Majell Huff Prater. Mr. Prater had lived the greater part of his life in Polk County and was of the Baptist faith. He owned and operated The Bait Shop in Cedartown for a number of years. Mr. Prater was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, David and Jimmy Prater.

Survivors include a daughter, Amy Powell, Rockmart; two sons: Shannon Prater and wife Sacha of Euharlee and Jerry Wayne Prater of Florida; two grandchildren: River Prater, Euharlee and Chelsey Powell, Rockmart; brother, Frankie Prater, Aragon and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. James Brewer officiating and Brother Jason Slaughter delivering a eulogy.

Honorary pallbearers will include: Chuck Dawson, Levi Dawson, Perry Williams, Randy Smith, Andy Ferrell and Carey Esom.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
