John Curtis Lanier, Sr.

April 18, 1924 — January 17, 2011

Mr. John Curtis Lanier, Sr., age 86, of Wheeler Road, Rockmart, GA passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 at his residence.


He was born in Polk County, GA on April 18, 1924 a son of Roy Lanier and Lottie Harper Lanier. Mr. Lanier grew up in the Taylorsville area where he attended the Taylorsville School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp having served in World War II as an M.P.. Mr. Lanier was of the Baptist faith. He retired from Schwerman Trucking where he worked as a diesel mechanic. Following his retirement from Schwerman he worked for a number of years with Ladd?s Farm Supply of Cartersville.


Mr. Lanier was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Bobbie Smith, a brother, Buddy Lanier and by a son, Michael Anthony Lanier on June 19, 1981.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Vivadell Lanier of Rockmart to whom he was married on March 29, 1947; a daughter, Mrs. Becky Racine, Rockmart; a son, Mr. John Curtis Lanier, Jr., Rockmart; two sisters: Mrs. Mary Moore, Cartersville and Mrs. Betty Lou Tatum, Cartersville; three brothers: Mr. James (Red) Lanier, Taylorsville, Mr. George Lanier, Rockmart and Mr. Sidney Lanier, Acworth; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.


Graveside funeral and interment services will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery with his nephew Rev. Rusty Lanier delivering a eulogy. Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion will provide Military Graveside Rites.


There will be no formal visitation.
