John Edwin "Ed" Tinney

April 6, 1939 — January 1, 2017

Mr. John Edwin "Ed" Tinney, age 77, of Piedmont, AL passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017 at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born in Trion, GA on April 6, 1939 a son of the late John H. Tinney and Lena McDonald Tinney. Mr. Tinney had made his home in Alabama since 2001 moving there from Dallas, GA where he had lived since 1942. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1957 to 1962. Mr. Tinney enjoyed electronics and took a great deal of pleasure in repairing anything electrical. He had been a licensed Ham Operator since the age of twelve and was a licensed aircraft pilot. Mr. Tinney was a member of the Church of Christ. He retired as a Communications Maintainer with the Norfolk Southern Railroad following thirty two years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Tinney, Piedmont, AL to whom he was married on December 29, 1962; three sons: Mike Tinney and Mark Tinney both of Piedmont, AL and Tim Tinney, Carrollton, GA; nine grandchildren: three great grandchildren; two sisters: Evelyn Adams and Ellen Fincher both of Dallas, GA.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 12 noon in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Minister Alan Webster officiating. Interment will follow in the Howell Cemetery, Trion, GA with full military honors.

Pallbearers will include: Tim Tinney, Vic Tinney, Casey Camp, Ridge Andrews, Danny Murdock and Steven Woods.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 9 pm at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the St .Jude Children's Research Hospital using the line below.
