Mr. John Thomas Foster, age 84, of Rockmart passed away Thursday, September 1, 2016 in a Rome nursing center following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Pleasant Hill, Illinois on January 20, 1932 a son of the late Harold Wesley Foster and Alta Mae Gill Foster. Mr. Foster had lived the greater part of his life in Rockmart; was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict and was of the Baptist faith. He retired from the Goodyear Mill of Cartersville where he worked for thirty two years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Williams Foster on November 20, 1998; by a grandson, Brian Wimpey; by two brothers: Russell and Burdette Foster and by three sisters: Maude Conner, Bernice Craigmiles and Genevieve Rowland.
Survivors include three daughters: Tommie Lynn Savage, Rockmart, Teresa Morgan (Scotty), Rockmart and Carol Griffin (Larry), Rome; a sister, Maybelle Epiley, Hannibal, MO; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 4, 2106 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Goolesby officiating and a eulogy given by a son in law, Larry Griffin. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens with Military Honors under the direction of the Honor Guard of Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion.
Pallbearers will include: Mike Roberts, Derrick Tilley, Phil Tilley, Charles Soles, Eric Fennell and David Savage.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 until 4 pm at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
