John Wendell Meeks

Mr. John Wendell Meeks, age 71, of Piedmont, AL passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015 at his residence.

He was born in Rockmart, GA on August 29, 1944, a son of the late James Henry Meeks and the late Nancy Lorene Thaxton Meeks. Mr. Meeks had lived the past nine years in Piedmont, moving there from Buchanan, GA where he had made his home since 1978. Mr. Meeks was a veteran of the Army National Guard, was a licensed minister and loved woodworking. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three daughters: Melanie Lynn Meeks, Dawn Michelle Presley and Nancy Meeks; two brothers: Thomas and Lloyd Meeks; and by two sisters: Valerie Sue Meeks and Lula Faye Meeks.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Meeks of Piedmont, AL, to whom he was married on March 22, 1971; two sons: John Martin (Marty) Meeks and his wife Rhonda and Thomas Matthew (Matt) Meeks and his wife Tami; five grandsons: A.J. Presley, Patrick Presley, Jacob Meeks, Kane Meeks and Dalton Amos; five granddaughters: Kristen Meeks, Angel Presley, Kassidy Meeks, Kara Meeks and Ashley Elliott; three great grandchildren; sister in law and brother in law, Sue and Richard Head also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. (EST) in the Mt. Zion East Missionary Baptist Church of Buchanan, GA with Rev. Charlie Israel and Rev. Matt Meeks officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites.

Pallbearers will include: Heath Dunn, Jeff Dunn, Alan Dunn, Keith Rainey, Greg Rainey and James Bishop.

Mr. Meeks will lie instate at the Mt. Zion East Missionary Baptist Church on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. (CST) at the Dailey Street Baptist Church of Piedmont, AL.
