Joseph Laltrello, Sr.

June 26, 1915 — June 10, 2011

Joseph Laltrello, Sr. of Atlantic City, New Jersey and recently a resident of Rockmart, Georgia, died June 10, 2011.

He was days shy of 96 years of age. Mr. Laltrello was formidable in his family?s eyes. The son of immigrant parents from Italy, he made his living as a shoemaker. Retired at 70 years of age, he was an expert tradesman in the Shoemaker?s Guild for over 50 years. Living on the coast of New Jersey for most of his life, his lifelong passion was fishing. Many fish tales were written about his acumen for finding the fish. He delighted in outsmarting the fish and fisherman alike by keeping his ?trade secrets? closely guarded. He was a great role model for his family in his ideals for work and aging. His physical strength and character were demonstrated by his lifelong physical work. Even after his retirement he didn?t slow down and could often be found completing large carpentry jobs such as tiling floors, building roofs, or building docks for family and friends out of the passion of his heart to keep going well into his 80?s. Additionally he began doing 5k & 10K foot races after 2 heart attacks and 2 bouts with colon cancer at the age of 80 years old.

His spirit for life is sadly missed by those who survive including one son Joe Laltrello, Jr., 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Robert and wife Mary Elizabeth.

In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Laltrello was cremated.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
