Joseph S. (Joe) Rayburn

Mr. Joseph S. (Joe) Rayburn, age 84, of Aragon, GA, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022.

Mr. Rayburn was born on July 13, 1937 in Rockmart, GA, to his parents: Ollie S. Rayburn and Gertrude Caldwell Rayburn. Joe lived all his life in Polk County. He was retired from General Motors, where he worked as a Master Mechanic and also had a shop in Aragon for several years. He was of Baptist faith. Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching, going to flea markets and metal detecting. Mr. Rayburn was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Grace Dunaway, Clora Campbell and Barbara Childers and brothers: Jack Rayburn, Audie “Snookum” Rayburn and Frank Rayburn.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Rayburn of Aragon, GA; children: Eric Rayburn of Aragon, GA, and Kristen Dempsey (Drew) of Rome, GA; 5 grandchildren: JT Rayburn, Camden Dempsey, Charleigh Dempsey, Brittany Dempsey and Chloe Dempsey; 1 great-grandson, Bryxon Griffith; sister, Teresa Smith of Rockmart, GA; brothers: J.C. Rayburn of Rockmart, GA, Doug Rayburn of Aragon, GA, Delmar Rayburn of Aragon, GA, Randy Rayburn of Rockmart, GA; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services for Mr. Joseph S. (Joe) Rayburn will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 1:00 PM in The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Purser officiating. Interment will follow the service at Aragon Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be the following gentlemen: Drew Dempsey, Greg Campbell, J.T. Rayburn, Scott Davis, Greg Hughes and Joe Garmon.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 from 11:00 AM until the service hour at 1:00 PM.
