Joyce Woods Chapman

Mrs. Joyce Woods Chapman, age 74, of Rockmart, GA passed away Monday, April 24, 2017 at her residence following a six month illness.

She was born in Rockmart, GA on June 1, 1942 a daughter of Dave C. Baker and Janie B Swann Baker. Mrs. Chapman had lived all of her life in Rockmart and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She worked for J.L.Lester & Son and retired from Eby-Brown Wholesale Grocers.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Melvin "Bill" Woods on January 2, 1998 and by a brother, Billy Johnson.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Chapman of Homer, GA to whom she was married in October of 2002; three children: Stacy Simpkins (Lee), Rockmart, Jerri Matthews (Chuck), Rockmart and Johnny Woods, Rockmart; three sisters: Carolyn Mayfield, Judy Williams and June Turner all of Aragon; two brothers: Jerry Baker and Jackie Baker both of Rockmart; four grandchildren: Heath Matthews, Tyler Matthews, Will Simpkins and Grayson Simpkins; one great granddaughter, Rylee Kate Matthews; step daughter, Paula Westbrook; step son, Greg Chapman (Tracy) ; four step grandchildren: Kaylee, Karlie, Kinley and Kennedy; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Ingram officiating. Interment will follow in Rockmart Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will include: Kevin Head, Richard Fennell, Joey Shedd, Heath Matthews, Tyler Matthews and Will Simpkins.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial gifts be made in Mrs. Chapman's memory to Cancer Navigators, 310 W. 10th. St., Rome, GA 30165.
