Karolyne Shealey Meredith, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on January 4, 2020, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Auburn, GA.
Born on July 5, 1931, she was the eldest daughter of the late Joseph Asa Shealey Sr. and Mildred Carney Shealey. Mrs. Meredith was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and raised in the community of Dundlak, Maryland, where she grew up with her three siblings.
She was married to the late John Edwin Meredith, Sr. for 52 years and together raised nine children.
Upon relocating to Georgia, the family settled in the Buckhead area and became members of The Cathedral of Christ The King Catholic Church. She was often found working in the school cafeteria while her children attended the parish school.
For over thirty years she operated an in-home daycare providing a loving, safe environment for the children of working parents in and around the Buckhead area. She was well loved by the children she cared for, influencing their young lives with her gentle ways, playful spirit, and what seemed to be an endless amount of energy and patience, as they would often consider her "Grandma."
She worked part-time in retail at Lord & Taylor where she retired in 1999, after thirty years of service. Always looking out for her customers, she made several trips to New York City where she was recognized for her years of service and for her excellent customer service. Many of her shoppers would travel from out of state to see her because she offered a good sense of fashion and an honest opinion.
Upon her retirement, she moved to Rockmart, Georgia, and later moved in to live and be cared for by family.
Mrs. Meredith was devoted to her Catholic faith and a longtime member of St. Michael's Traditional Roman Catholic Church in Roswell, Georgia. She volunteered as a religious educator assisting in preparing the parish children for the Blessed Sacrament of First Communion.
She is survived by her nine children, Renee Meredith, Donna Zucco (Richard), Darlene Corso, Dawn Royer (William), Mary Bird (Alex), Sharon Wood (Tommy), John E. Meredith (Robin), Timothy P. Meredith (Sharyl), Karolyne Thompson (Troy), as well as, 28 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Darlene Dail and Sharon Lewis and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband John Edwin Meredith Sr., parents Joseph Asa Shealey Sr., Mildred Carney Shealey, brother Joseph Asa Shealey Jr., his wife Martha Shealey, two brother-in-laws Shelmon F. Dail and Robert C. Lewis.
Throughout our lives she has not only been our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, but a positive influence and has touched each one of our lives in a special way. She will forever be remembered in the hearts of many and is now in the loving hands of our Lord.
