Mr. Keith Barber, age 58, of Rockmart, GA passed away suddenly Friday, December 16, 2016.
He was born in Rockmart, GA on December 23, 1957, a son of Ellis P. Barber and Brenda Ledford Barber. Mr. Barber had lived all of his life in Rockmart where he was a graduate of Rockmart High School Class of 1977. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and he had a strong faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior. Mr. Barber was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, go boating, four wheeling, and camping. He spent his working career in Law Enforcement starting with the Cedartown Police Department. He then went to work for the Polk County Sheriff's Department where he served as Chief Deputy, then back to Cedartown Police where he served as Investigator, and retired as Chief of Cedartown Police Department after a 29 year career.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ellis P. Barber; and grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Ledford and Mr. and Mrs. John Barber.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Gloria Barber of Rockmart, GA to whom he was married on September 30, 1977; daughter, Jeri Dawn Houston and her husband Pete, Rockmart; two grandchildren: Keinsley Houston, and Katie Broke Houston; mother, Brenda White and her husband Gerald, Rockmart; two brothers: Tracey Samples and his wife Tina, Rockmart and Todd Barber, Dallas; sister, Lisa Bishop, Cedartown; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Brother Jamie Newsom and Rev. Chris Truett officiating. Interment will follow in the Northview Cemetery with the Gordon County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard providing police honors.
Pallbearers will include: Ricky Parham, John Pilgrim, Steve Molock, Ralph Smith, Cody Lumpkin and Anthony Wood. Honorary pallbearers will include: Dale, Mike, Ricky and Gary Gable and officers of the Cedartown Police Department.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 9 PM at the funeral home with the Floyd County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard providing watch during those hours.
