Laurie Cherilyn Powell

Mrs. Laurie Cherilyn Powell, age 44, of 2008 First Avenue, Rockmart passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010 in a Rome Medical Center following a year long illness.


She was born in Rome, GA on August 5, 1965 a daughter of Hershel and Carolyn Clark Cox. Laurie had lived in Rockmart the greater part of her life and was a 1983 graduate of Rockmart High School. She was a member of the Happy Valley Baptist Church of Villa Rica. Prior to ill health she was employed in the child daycare field.


Survivors include her husband, Mr. Michael A. Powell to whom she was married on November 8, 1985; son, Cody Powell; two daughters: Misty Powell and Skylar Powell; a step daughter, Lisa Linzin, and a granddaughter, Jessie Mae Linzin, all of Rockmart; her parents, Hershel and Carolyn Cox of Wedowee, AL; and one brother, Timothy Cox of Taylorsville.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Happy Valley Baptist Church of Villa Rica with Rev. Eddie Wyatt, Rev. Freddy Young and Rev. Charles Dyer officiating. Interment will follow in the Springdale Baptist Church Cemetery.


Pallbearers will include: David Hallford, Jerry Bailey, Dewayne Ray, Josh Mann, Alan Parker and Greg Godfrey.


The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
