Leonard M. Tompkins

Mr. Leonard M. Tompkins, age 78, of Cedartown, GA passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015 in Buchanan, GA following several months of declining health.

He was born in Marietta, GA on September 19, 1937 a son of the late A.D. Tompkins and Fannie Sellers Tompkins. Mr. Tompkins lived the early years of his life in the Cobb County area before moving to Polk County where he has made his home for a number of years. He loved to hunt and fish and was a retired employee of Atlantic Steel. After retirement from Atlantic Steel he also enjoyed a career as an over the road truck driver.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter La'Chelle Tompkins and by two sisters: Gertie Mae Tompkins and Louella Dobbins.

Survivors include two sons: James Alan Childers and wife Sherrie of Forsyth and Endia Tompkins, Cedartown; two brothers: Fred Tompkins, Marietta and Edward Tompkins, Smyrna; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside funeral and interment services will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Hulsey officiating.

Pallbearers will include: Greg Rainey, Ricky Sorrells, Matt Garrett, Keith Rainey and Clint Shoemaker.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mr. Leonard M. Tompkins.
