Lester Thomas

Mr. Lester Thomas, age 87, of Rockmart, GA passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at his residence.

He was born on December 5, 1929 in Seminole, Oklahoma a son of the late Julius Thomas and Beatrice Arnold Thomas. Mr. Thomas had been a resident of Polk County for the past thirty years moving here from Paulding County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 782nd Airborne Ordinance Maintenance Company of the 82nd Airborne Division; a Master Mason of Davitte Lodge # 513 F & AM, a member of the Cedar Valley Shrine Club and a member of the Rockmart Church of God. Mr. Thomas was a former employee of the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and was a retired Procedure Writer of the Southern Company.

In addition to his parents he was preceded by a son Clint Thomas, step son, Wayne Massey and by a brother, Tommy Thomas.

Survivors include his wife, Madge Thomas of Rockmart to whom he was married on November 17, 1961; daughter, Debbie White, Cedartown; three step daughters: Faye Mize, Smyrna, Brenda Guy, Monroe and Judy Badon, Rockmart; three sisters: Martha Cox, Kansas City, Missouri, Sue McDonald, Huntsville, Alabama and Carolyn Roberts, Horton, Alabama; eleven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 9, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Rockmart Church of God with Rev. Mike Pasley, Rev. Ed Pasley and Rev. Danny Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in Paulding Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Honor Guard of Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion and Masonic Graveside Rites provided by the West Georgia Memorial Masonic Club.

Mr. Thomas will lie instate at the Rockmart Church of God from 1:00 pm until the service hour on Friday.

Great grandchildren serving as pallbearers will include: Jonathan Badon, James Standeford, Jennifer Badon, Judy Standeford, Jessica Badon, Ariel Lewis, Benjamin Lewis, Zackery Lewis, Gabriel Woodward and Dalton Woodward.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.
