Mrs. Linda Vaughn Carter Chambers, age 64, of 4029 Third Avenue, Rockmart passed away Sunday, November 29, 2009 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Rockmart on September 8, 1945 a daughter of Leonard B. Vaughn and Margaret Pilgrim Vaughn. Mrs. Chambers had lived all of her life in Rockmart; was a member of the New Freedom Baptist Church and retired from Engineered Fabrics Corporation in 2004 following 34 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Carter in 1992, by a grandson, Casey Sumlar, a sister, Mary Frances Pittman and a daughter in law, Stacey Carter.
Survivors include her three children: Melody Cook, Aragon, Tammy Forsyth, Rockmart and James ?Cooter? Carter, Aragon; one sister, Louise Compton, Rockmart; one brother, Jack Vaughn, Panama City, FL; six grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Shoemaker officiating and Mr. Ron Brown delivering a eulogy.
Pallbearers will include: Levi Carter, James ?Cooter? Carter, David Pittman, Will Pittman, Andy Schwake and Chase Robinson.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts be made to Transitions Hospice Care, 610 Shorter Ave., Suite 9 Rome, GA 30165 or New Freedom Baptist Church.
The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
