Margaret Lee Harris

Mrs. Margaret Lee Harris, age 86, of Rockmart, GA passed away Monday, June 6, 2016 in a Rome medical center.

She was born in Brice, GA a daughter of William R. Perry and Carrie B. Robinson Perry. Mrs. Harris was a lifelong resident of Rockmart and was a member of the Rockmart First United Methodist Church. During her early working career she was employed by Lockheed Aircraft for over twenty years and was a retired employee of Floyd Medical Center where she was employed as a secretary in Respiratory Therapy for eighteen years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis E. Harris in July of 1964 following a military accident.

A few things must be noted in order to properly honor our friend and neighbor, Maggie Harris. She was one of the few people that single-handedly kept the Belk's franchise alive during times of economic duress. Maggie could take a trip to Biloxi and not bat an eye that it happened on a "senior citizen's van" where she made a few hundred dollars. She was the best example of living every single day to your fullest and never caving to outside ideals.

Mrs. Harris is survived by her eldest daughter and son in law, Debra and Carl Usry, Rockmart as well as her daughter and her granddaughter, Harriett Harris and Mikahla Rae Harris of San Francisco, California.

Memorial services will be held Monday, June 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jeanette M. Dickens officiating. A private interment will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 10 am until the memorial hour at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
