Martha Cain Cannon

Mrs. Martha Cain Cannon, age 84, of 100 LeGrande Street, Rockmart passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010 following an extended illness.

She was born in Gainesville, GA on December 7, 1925 a daughter of the late William Calvin Cain, Sr. and Mamie Hamilton Cain. Mrs. Cannon had been a resident of Rockmart for the past eleven years having moved here from Lilburn, GA. She was a former employee of the Colonial Grocery Company and a member of the Central Baptist Church of Smyrna. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Chester Cannon, Jr. in 1986 and by two brothers: Kelsie Cain and Billy Cain and two sisters: Hassie Worley and Ruth Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Carla Moon Flippo and her husband Robert of Rockmart; adopted daughter, Mrs. Vicki Bennett Stow and her husband David of Gainesville, GA; five grandchildren: Darla Arnold, David Patrick, Brian Moon, Amanda Brinkley and Aaron Moon; twelve great grandchildren ; two great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Cook and Mrs. Carla Moon Flippo delivering tributes. Interment will follow in the Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include: David Patrick, Brian Moon, Aaron Moon, Mike Brinkley, David Stow and Ben Moon. Honorary pallbearers will include: Robin King, Vivian Pierce, Velvet Singleton, Mary Lee, Patricia Garrett, Kelly Garrett, Wonda Redden, Amanda Brinkley and the staff of At Peace Hospice.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
